Science
Science at Ōpoutere School is dynamic and engaging, thanks to our partnership with the House of Science. Our dedicated Classroom Release Time (CRT) teacher leads weekly science lessons, using the House of Science's comprehensive, bilingual resource kits.
This approach allows for rich, hands-on, context-based learning experiences. Instead of just reading about science, students get to become scientists themselves, conducting experiments with all the necessary equipment and materials provided in the kits. Topics range from "Forest Health" and "Climate Change" to "The Ocean" and "Electricity," ensuring that science is directly linked to the world around our students, including our unique local environment.
The House of Science model empowers our teachers and inspires our students. By providing ready-to-use kits, it gives our teachers the confidence to deliver exciting and practical science lessons that align with the New Zealand curriculum. This hands-on approach sparks curiosity, encourages critical thinking, and fosters a love of scientific discovery, preparing our students to be scientifically literate citizens of the future.
